Cushing celebrated its sesquicentennial in 2015.
On May 15, 1865, the Great and General Court of Massachusetts passed the The Act of Incorporation of Cushing Academy. After a decade of planning and building, the Academy opened in September 1875 with an inaugural student body of "66 gentlemen and 56 ladies." And, as they say, the rest is history.
During the sesquicentennial year, students and faculty reflected on our proud history with on-campus celebrations, speakers and special projects. Alumni, parents and friends joined the Cushing community at events celebrating this milestone, including gatherings across the country; a compilation of remembered stories, both written and oral; the Cushing Performing Arts Series; and the grandest reunion ever.
