Cushing Academy encourages résumés from teacher candidates with successful teaching experience as well as those who have earned their bachelor's, master's, and/or doctoral degrees, and who possess strong academic training in relevant subject areas.

Cushing seeks teacher candidates interested in the full life of our boarding school beyond the classroom. Teachers at Cushing typically work with 50 or fewer students divided among four classes. Faculty members generally coach two seasons each year and live in a dormitory where they supervise and counsel students.  
 
Cushing provides faculty with generous benefits, including health insurance, TIAA or Nationwide retirement annuities, and housing and dining privileges.

  • English Teacher

    Cushing Academy seeks to hire a passionate, creative, and compassionate teacher of English to begin August 15, 2021. The position requires teaching four sections of college preparatory English. 

    Qualified candidates will have a bachelor's degree in English or related field (master's preferred) and at least 3-6 years of classroom teaching experience at the high school level. Familiarity with independent high schools is necessary, and boarding school experience is particularly helpful. Successful candidates will have an exceptional ability to develop and maintain positive and healthy relationships with a diverse range of adolescents. Candidates should demonstrate an ongoing commitment to creating and supporting a diverse, equitable, and inclusive educational environment mirrored in their instruction of diverse literature, and a willingness to examine their own educational practices through an anti-oppression and anti-racist framework. Housing is provided with associated residential life duties. Boarding school faculty also provide leadership for afternoon activities that match experience and interest.   • Mathematics Teacher

    Cushing Academy seeks to hire an enthusiastic and versatile teacher of mathematics to begin August 15, 2021. The position requires teaching four sections of college preparatory mathematics, including advanced probability and statistics. The position of Mathematics Department Chair will also be considered for the right candidates. 

    Qualified teacher candidates will have a bachelor's degree in mathematics or a related field (master's preferred) and at least 3-6 years of classroom teaching experience at the high school level. Familiarity with independent high schools is necessary, and boarding school experience is particularly helpful.
